Okay, I have a confession to make. This blog is not just a emarketing escapade, wonderings on wandering clickstreams. There is an ulterior motive. We're using this blog to test and improve our blog software, doggie style. Which is why I haven't posted for a few days - I've been busy fixing and tweaking. Who knew that there were so many competing feed standards, so many versions of those standards, and so many XML namespaces within each of those versions? Luckily we have Feedburner, but RSS definition still feels very organic.
So, I know what y'all are thinking. Why develop yet another blog incarnation? Well, I happen to like tinkering, Java is my toolbox, and I don't really like any of the current options available. But the real reason is that we can apply all of the technology we have developed over the years in our websites, technology that tracks, measures and optimises. Without getting evangelical, most of the world's most popular blog softwares are written in scripting languages that lack powerful enterprise features, like independent layering of services across the entire site. I promise to explain better in later posts.
Long term, I want this blog to be usable, optimised for search engines, and to look good, in that order. My first priority however remains to squash the remaining bugs - please let me know if you find any!
