Thanks to MikeH for pointing us to this. The BBC has canned the “Isagaylord” site under the auspices of copyright infringement.

How dumb can they be? I think this just highlights the fact that they are still thinking about marketing as it was 40 years ago. Don’t they realise that Mike used the BBC look and feel because it added credibility? Don’t they realise that consumer’s now control the conversation?

The underlying message to all that viewed the page: The BBC is credible, thats why this is funny. I even thought it was a clever BBC viral campaign!! I was stupid to think the BBC could have been so smart.

In my extremely humble opinion the original site had a positive effect on their brand awareness because people knew it was just a fantastic joke and that made it super viral. Their subsequent removal of it and the existence of this page will take the BBC back much further than where they started.

There are now a whole bunch of Digerati who think the BBC are idiots. I am one of them.
