I went to the Seth Godin Dinner last night and despite not having Rich…! around I had a great time.
We arrived at 6’ish and started tucking into the little Mexican snacks with relish. After a couple of hours of chatting and drinking some of us hit the buffet and we all listened to Seth’s speech which probably went on for about an hour or so.
Still silly over my new camera I took a 3 minute video clip of Seth telling his Purple Cow story. Check it out here although at 70MB it’s probably not worth it if you’re on a slow (read South African) connection.
(Can anyone tell me how I can compress this MPEG file and still keep the resolution?)
As those who know me will understand, meeting Seth was a huge thing for me. To say I have been an obsessed fan for years would be an understatement. The guy is a genius.
Here is a pic of me trying my famous Jedi mind sucking technique.
My life changed when I read Permission Marketing twice in a row back in the mid-late nineties. I was studying marketing at the time and it made me realise that apart from the underlying marketing principles, most of what I was learning was bollocks. Traditional advertising was dead and if I didn’t wake up to this new wave I would never make a difference. If it wasn’t for Seth I might be working for Unilever as a brand manager right now… urgh just the thought makes me queasy.
