Linux and the future

Riaan pointed me to this video demonstration . Although I’d strongly suggest watching the whole thing, if you want to skip straight to the good stuff, check out the virtual desktop at 2 mins. You can flip, and rotate the entire desktop, it's like a cube! Also the video and 3D effects are astounding.

I have to say that I’m absolutely blown away by this. Although I’m not a Linux user myself, many of the QuirkStars are and so I’ve seen my fair share of Linux desktops. Until now there was no doubting that for the average user they lacked in aesthetics and ease of use but this could change that forever. I’ve also seen a demo of Windows Vista and aesthetically, this kicks its ass!

I am now more convinced than ever that open source is the future.

looks really good, love the transparency option. I have recently gone over to a mac much to Z's consternation, and really like the interface especially expose.

man, i dunno what M$ tried to do with Vista but I am not convinced, for example ... let's just look at notepad, in almost 10 yrs the thing hasn't changed, no syntax higlighting, no line numbers, no spell check, no "convert to lower case, nothing ... in an MS world where you pay for everything, it' sure looks like your getting less and less!
