Night of the (Quirk) Stars

So I guess you’re probably wondering why we’re only posting about our end of year bash on Friday when it happened on Tuesday. The answer is really quite simple – our brains were malfunctioning and we were still trying to piece certain aspects of the evening together – in short those Tequila Sunrises were fantastic! The video which will be available soon should give all of us a better idea of what really went down.

So as far as we can recollect this is the way the evening turned out:
The QuirkStars and the crew from incuBeta gathered at the BMW Pavilion at around 7pm on Tuesday evening armed with loads of prezzies for the kids at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital – and that’s about as much as we can remember. The End.

No seriously the weather was perfect, there were cocktails being served under the Bedouin, the décor was elegant and, for a few hours, we felt more like movie stars than computer geeks.
Once the cocktails had all been put to bed, thanks must go to Nick for ensuring this went quite speedily, we all made our way inside for the speeches and a fantastic meal. With the formalities out the way, the real partying was kicked off by local act, Bed on Bricks who apart from being total hotties wowed the crowd with their performance. They really are awesome, if you haven’t seen them perform yet, do yourself a favour and get to the next gig. Rob was so enamoured (read “being a total groupie”) that he asked lead singer, Mike Hardy, to sign the play list – we don’t think he’s washed his hand since it touched Mike’s when they met.

Once they’d finished their set it was the turn of DJ extraordinaire, Alan Ball - Darryn “the dancing queen” Gosling was particularly impressed with Alan’s skills. As a token of appreciation Darryn really pulled some tricks out the bag, in fact we’re pretty scared he may leave us in the lurch to become one of Justin "the Trousersnake" Timberlake’s back up dancers…

Suddenly it was 2am and only the die hard’s were left. At 3 – even they had to go… only because they were locked out of the venue. All in all it was a fantastic evening, quite a change from last year’s civilised picnic in the park.

Congratulations go to: Jaco, who made it through an entire night without losing his footwear and everyone who managed to get to work before noon the next day.
Thanks go to: Rob and Vinny for throwing us such an amazing party and for letting us come in at 12 - well thanks to Vinny for that ;-), the Joburg QuirkStars for helping set up and to Sarah Aitken and Diana Caboz for doing absolutely everything! You guys all rock – can’t wait for next year.
