Being the new fish - words from an intern

As a new intern at Quirk eMarketing, I feel both excitement and trepidation for the road ahead. This was compounded by Darren’s previous post about throwing us into the deep end and fishing us out with a net or something. But that’s exactly the kind of challenge I look forward too, especially when producing quality work is the only way to stay afloat.

My studies at UCT over the past four years have taught me the importance of team work, discipline and thriving on the learning process. As an undergraduate I majored in Media and Multimedia Production, the latter ultimately inspiring my interest and enthusiasm for internet related technologies. As a postgraduate, I was given the opportunity to extend this knowledge within a business context as I applied my skills to the mechanics of organisations and entrepreneurship.

I have enjoyed being able to apply the skills I have learned over the last four years to specific practical projects. I have been involved as a Web Developer for a prominent online camera company, have designed and developed websites for clients and am currently involved in a unique video sharing service. My interests in eMarketing cover a broad spectrum of areas including SEO, WebPR and Online Advertising.

My first few days at Quirk have been insightful and confusing. I’m having fun. The Quirkstars are friendly, the office atmosphere is relaxed, yet focused and there is a certain madness that seems to drive the innovation and marketing excellence Quirk seems to be renowned for.

I've learned that eMarketing isn’t just about applying procedures and principles. It’s about thinking creatively and understanding the processes that apply to each service. Thinking outside the box is the name of the game.

As an intern, this insight can be overwhelming at times, as I am sure less tech savvy clients view the technical jargon and eMarketing parlance. The important thing for me is that eMarketing is one of the most exciting and rewarding marketing strategies of the 21st century. I can’t wait to see it in action.

There's a reason for the 21st Century, Not too sure but I know that it's meant to be, And that it's meant to be. It's my favourite, Combination, Coming down with the favoured nations. Deep rotation, Muti....lation, Learn to give and take dictation. Oh, oh oh, oh oh, Like a Cain and Abel. Oh, oh oh, oh oh, It's time to run this table.
