Listen with your soul

I hardly ever shop at Musica. They don't exactly have the broadest collection under the sun and for somebody like me who's looking for artists like Rob Dougan, The Servant and VNV Nation. The chances of finding these names in a Musica store are about on par with my chances of winning the Apple TV for designing the unofficial 2007 SA Blog Awards logo. For those of you who don't know - I draw like a drunken ferret.

On top of that there's something about the brand itself that just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know what it is exactly - the logo, the stores' layout, or just some bad experiences that I've had in the past – but it's one of those brands that I've just found myself avoiding.
That being said I do think that their advertising has generally been top notch, and I particularly enjoyed this clip. In fact I didn't just enjoy it, I thought that it rocked. Now what could possibly be a more appropriate message?

PS, still a great track after all these years, ain't it?

Hmmm, what about Musica at the V&A Waterfront? They took over CD Warehouse - that massive music shop there. I'm pretty sure you could find almost anything at that Musica.

Er, true. Had forgotten about the Wherehouse. Still think of it as CD Wherehouse and not Musica though. Musica probably realises this as well - they do after all have a Musica store in the main V&A centre a 5 minute walk from the Wherehouse. Maybe they do recognise that the brand has some weaknesses. Btw, showing your age there gav? Abigails? That was my oldest brother's first job.

if i'm going to get arb music (The Servant... need i say more) i normally head to look and listen. they stock most things but you pay for the pleasure (rather pricey) - although i go there to quiz their staff, esp Cavindish branch Cape Town, who know their stuff. as for the ad, brilliant. i've even sent it around the office.
