Greetings from the Jozi QuirkStation! Since starting at Quirk eMarketing as an Intern life’s been a bit of an educational whirlwind. While this may be my first foray into blogging on GottaQuirk, it won’t be the last.
When you think about all the leading nations of the world, images of computers in the majority of households and widespread Internet access come to mind. This is currently not the case in South Africa; where there is only a small percentage (around 7.4) of the total population of 47.4 million people have Internet access.
Even though South Africa doesn’t have a high proportionality of computer and Internet users, those that do have access to the Internet are more likely to have disposable incomes to spend on luxuries – this is the segment companies want to reach and it’s very easily done with eMarketing.
South Africa, as a nation, needs to start thinking about global standards and the impending 2010 Soccer World Cup as well as the estimated 3 million tourists that will be flocking to SA for the event.
The majority of the tourists that are planning 2010 trips to South Africa will need to make reservations for accommodation and transportation etc. early, in order to guarantee a place.
And the most convenient way to do this themselves, is over the Internet! This is but one of the reasons that many South African businesses need to get themselves up to global standards as far as eMarketing goes – and they need to do it quickly.
A functional website allows businesses to go global as anyone in the world that has Internet access can view your site to find out info, view a product or service, buy a product or service or approach you 24/7-365.
But just having a website means nothing! You target market must also be able to find, navigate and easily load your site. Hence the increasing need for SEO, PPC, Website maintenance (and many other services) in order to bring your company up to global standards.
South African businesses are going to need to start waking up to the fact that in the near future without eMarketing they may start facing some pretty dire consequences.
