- It is well known that people trust individuals more than corporations, so if I tell a friend that this product is really good, they are more likely to believe me that the company that produces the product.
- Then there are friends of friends. You don't trust their opinions as much as your actual friends, but as they are endorsed by your friend you still apportion them a certain amount of trust.
- Then there are experts that you don't know personally but you are aware that they are generally recognised as very knowledgeable in a certain area, so you again apportion them with a certain amount of trust, at least in their area of expertise.
We weigh up all these factors a lot of the time without even realising it and make a decision as to who to believe.
Then occasionally you see something which fits into your world view so completely, that you will trust it implicitly until the day you die no matter what evidence to the contrary is presented to you. Not only is it ok to ogle beautiful girls, not doing so would endanger my health.
If you think about it, it makes perfect sense.
