In a recent poll on SEOPal, readers were asked for their opinions on the Top Ranking Factors in SEO.
These are the current top 10 factors:
| # | Title | Type |
| 1 | Anchor Text | Inbound Links |
| 2 | Unique Content | Content |
| 3 | Title Tags | On Page |
| 4 | Site History | On Site |
| 5 | Back links | Inbound Links |
| 6 | Link age | Inbound Links |
| 7 | Site Trust | On Site |
| 8 | Site Subject | On Site |
| 9 | Page Rank | Inbound Links |
| 10 | Site Age | On Site |
You'll notice from the list that 4 out of the 10 are related to links. So the clear consensus would be that your inbound links are the most important factor when it comes to SEO.
But you can't just rely on quantity anymore. So what is a quality link? *Drum role*
Presenting, The Link Builder’s Friend - An extremely helpful tool developed by Elixer Systems
Not only does it show you the amount of pages indexed on all three major search engines, but it also shows you the amount of inbound links for that domain – all on one page. But that’s not all, it also gives you other important information like:
- Page Rank
- # of links from the Yahoo Directory
- # of links from DMOZ
- # of links from .gov sites
- # of links from .edu sites
- # of links to your home page
- # of external links to your home page
- # of links to internal pages on your site
All the relevant information you would need to know about a website if you plan on linking from it.
Check it out. You can find it at http://www.elixirsystems.com/tools/linkpopularity.php or try it out below:

What I DO like about the "elixir systems" tool you've given is the "not internal" links to the home page and to the domain.
