After our initial search for the Top 10 SA sites that Google favours, we found that a lot of the questions were left unanswered. So we decided to dig deeper to try and discover what makes these pages better than the rest…

Indexing
I was quite surprised to see the low amount of pages indexed for a site of this magnitude. I’m sure there must be more pages on this, a relic of South African sites. There are clearly some spidering boundaries here – that’s indicated by the different amount of pages indexed by each search engine. They also have 80% of their pages in the supplemental index on Google.

Links
Although they don’t have to worry too much about the quality of their links (PR 6); there is a clear problem if you compare their total links (127,268) to the amount of links showed by Google (981). They also have a very low percentage of links to internal pages (5%).

Summary

By increasing interlinking in their content and including detailed sitemaps, Ananzi should be able to up the number of pages in the Google index. Combine this with some good relevant links pointing to their internal pages and we should soon see them moving up on that list…

Indexing
Wow – a Juggernaut of a site with a high number of pages indexed across the board. Maybe the only down fall would be the amount of pages in the supplemental results in Google.

Links

Again, a very impressive even spread of links, but alarming the low amount of links n Google (487) - that’s a mere 5% of all their links. Good ratio of deep level links!!!

Summary
Increasing the amount of links will shoot this baby straight up the rankings. Try to hit those pages in the supplemental results, and you could even win a Datsun…

Indexing

This site was quite a surprise inclusion in the list. A mere infant compared to its peers. Moderate number of pages, with a lot of value behind them? Or is that the elusion?

Links
A lot of .edu and .gov links. No surprise with the # of .gov sites – we link from all our client sites. A high expected deep level percentage, as a lot of links pointing to the profile and resource pages on the Nelson Mandela page.

Summary
It’s simple - being a .org, it’s all about information. Keep throwing in the content rich resources and reel in those hard to find links!!!

We’ll be analysing the next three sites tomorrow so keep an eye out.
