StarCamp T-shirt: design concepts needed

by Tim Shier

2007/12/03

I’ve just had a very interesting chat with Neil Blakey-Milner, who is organising Cape Town’s very own StarCamp, and from the line-up that he mentioned it's going to be l33t (yes, yes… I had to drop it in here).

During the chat I realised that this is something that really deserves assistance and to do our bit we have decided to supply nifty t-shirts to all the undelegates (P.S. he is also looking for some other help so if you can assist, please give him a call).

In true “un” style we thought it would be great if we opened up the t-shirt design to the entire blogosphere. Basically, we are looking for a super creative concept that we can then carefully craft into an award winning t-shirt design. At the last BarCamp we also got involved in helping out and through a similar mechanism we ended up with an awesome t-shirt designed by Mark Forrester which many of the attendees still wear (Rafiq for one).

The Brief:
  • Must revolve around the StarCamp unconference concept.
  • Must have the StarCamp logo (below).
  • Must have www.quirk.co.za somewhere in the design (hey... T-shirts ain't cheap, we gotta get some benefit from this  :) ).
  • Ideally should integrate the QuirkStars logo (below).
  • Must be fun, different and completely wearable in public.
  • Design cannot be larger than an A4 per side (i.e. one A4 for the front and another for the back).
  • The t-shirts are blue and the print can be just about any ONE colour (for all the printing).
The Problem:
  • The deadline is 12 noon tomorrow (CAT). Yes yes, I know that's a ridiculous deadline, but what can I say? - the event is on Saturday!
The Reward:
  • Serious street-cred and a t-shirt posted to your door (even if you live in Kazakhstan).
The Process:
  • Either post your concept as a comment or email me on creativity@quirk.biz.

Drop me a line if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to evolving something awesome together!

I was just thinking, how about a contalation which includes the Starcamp and QuirkStar logos? It may be a bit tricky getting it onto paper but hey... its a concept :)

Rushdeen, you can get the vector (SVG) version of the logo at:

umm if the *, StarCamp is named after, has 5 points why does the StarCamp logo have 6?

Thanks to Janine for a nice idea:

One the front of the t-shirt have "I am a " with a MASSIVE "*" below it.

On the back it can then have the starcamp and Quirk branding - ideas.

Another idea:

Have a whole pile of Stars ('*') which, collectively, are in the shape of Africa. With some clever punchline... (Unfortunately, nothing comes to mind right now).

Again, branding on the back

Why not focus on the community aspect of the event...south africans who are passionate about the internet. This space allows for some proudly sa web imagary ...i.e bolding areas of http://www.quirk.biz source code to create a graphic of madiba's face
