When I saw BBC in the title for this viral I have to admit I got a little excited. I’ve always been a fan of British humour (Monty Python is responsible for a few of the stranger parts of my personality) and I expected much from the home of British entertainment. The ad isn’t quite in the Python vein of things, but is nonetheless greatly entertaining.
The advert is for the new High Definition TV channel that the BBC is launching in the UK, and includes an antique road show, explosions and a British News presenter. You’d better watch it before I give too much away.
Of course you can hardly pull this off without the production costs they are able to pay, but wooweewawa, is it enthralling (and I normally hate those antique shows).
I’m surprised to see that the clip (which has only been up on YouTube for a week) has only gotten about 950 views. This could be because most of their audience will view it on TV, but I believe this ad translates well online (even without recognizing the British news reporter) and, given time, will do well. Spectacular high definition self-mockery can only be a winner – and I’m glad to see the professionals got it right.
