So it's all happening online, but if you're smart enough to be reading this then you know that already. For this week's Friday Fact Box, I thought it would be useful to take a look at the latest surging figures about online ad spend (all directly quoted). Happy statistics Friday!
From eMarketer Online ad Spend Holding Strong May 2008
- For the full year 2007, online ad revenues totaled $21.2 billion, (26% higher than 2006)
- The IAB and PwC said that Q4 2007 Internet advertising revenues reached $5.9 billion, the highest ever for a single quarter and 24% higher than the same period in 2006
- As in prior years, consumer advertisers were the largest category of Internet advertising spending, at 55% of 2007 full-year revenues, up from 52% from the full year 2006

- Display advertising spend saw a 31% year-on-year increase core formats – banners, skyscrapers and embedded rich media including video – grew by 45% to £592 million
- Ad networks increasing in importance - the IAB say "Sales houses and networks are responsible for growing and monetising the long tail of internet sites, accounting for 40% of display advertising in 2007"
- Paid search marketing grew by 39% to £1.6 billion (£1.2 billion in 2006), while its market share remained similar at 57.6% (57.8% in 2006).
- The report noted there were 1.7 billion searches in the UK in January 2007 according to Forrester
- £1.2 billion (57.8 % share) on Paid for search
- £453.7 million on display advertising (including banners, skyscrapers and online sponsorships)
- £379 million (18.8% share)
