Hello The World

Well, it's my second week under the employ of Quirk eMarketing - all in all, a wonderful life experience thus far. I'm surrounded by an interesting little Quirk gang who are humorous and informative, and sometimes a little scary. Apart from the terrifying technical jargon being flung around the office, things in London Town are not that bad.

I do miss the Cape Town lifestyle though and the ability to abide by the Mother City adage: 'Hard work never killed anybody, but why take the chance?' Things are a little different up north and we definitely do get an A for effort.

Matt and Nic are the kind of guys I would hang out with socially and would definitely drop-in on, preferably on a cooking "Outer Kom" line up. I don't recommend having a meeting with Nic while the cricket is on a TV directly behind your head though. For those unaware of his obsession - you will believe for a while that you are having a conversation with London's first ever severe Tourette syndrome suffering Managing Director.

It’s a very exciting time in the world - being stuck on the tube this morning and reading my daily dose of celeb gossip in the Metro, I actually stumbled across something quite intriguing and informative.

Seven out of ten workers already have a better work-life balance, 44 percent work more from home and 18 percent say head offices are dying out, a study by Microsoft Windows Mobile found. Instead of office spaces, the study says, cities will offer wi-fi hubs, while blocks that do remain will house leisure facilities, exhibition spaces and roof gardens.”

If this is true and a Microsoft Windows Mobile survey can be trusted, the implications for our industry would be mind boggling. All I can advise my fellow QuirkStars is to stick around until 2033, when I believe we might be seeing a rather large online activity increase. Working in eMarketing in a digital world …mmmm…will be a nice position to be in, let’s brace ourselves…

I'm super excited to work with all the QuirkStars and will even get to put faces to the MSN names when I am in Cape Town in December. I'd like to say thanks to Nic and Matt for everything so far - I really appreciate the work explaining what Ajax is.

In closing I'd just like to say that wisdom is the quality that keeps you from getting into those very situations where you would need it.
