Blogger Bake Off Breads

by Katharina Scholtz

2008/10/17

I love the Blogger Bake Off campaign. It's going to feed people and it also fed me. Sarah M made the MOST DELICIOUS bread to bring into the QuirkStation this morning. It's a feta and spinach concoction which I have dubbed “Sarah's rocking bread” and the recipe’s up on the Blogger Bake Off site. Despite my obvious bias for feta related treats, I have to say that the general QuirkStar contributions have left me feeling impressed and slightly embarrassed for not bringing my own.

The QuirkStation kitchen featured a pineapple loaf (also from Sarah), Rob's yeast free bread (which tasted a little weird to me, sorry Rob) and some yummy banana muffins from Santi. The other two contributions were a slight cheat. Sue kindly “handmade” a plastic wrapped bag of rusks with raw materials from her wallet, while Tammy brought in a chocolate cake (I'm not complaining, cake is just flavoured bread anyway). You guys are all a little slice of lovely.

We'd love to hear what you have been baking, and would like to *ahem send a reminder nudge out to Vinny LinghamTertia Albertyn, Adriana Lukas and  Gina Trapani. You have been tagged! (Scott, you rock!)

Sarah, I love you! Tammy you too!

Thanks Stars! That pineapple loaf was great, as were the muffins.

I too plan on baking at some stage, but my repertoire only includes cakes, biscuits and puddings at this stage so will have to venture into uncharted waters.

Rob, for the record... I thought your yeast free, soda bread was delish. I'd def try it some time. S, your veggie bread was out of this world and oh so healthy.. will feed it to my kid. For those boyzzz who pulled up their noses cos of the veggies... dudes, what better way to get in a few greens...tsk tsk tsk
Tammy Tammy... oh so decadent. Your choc cake was way beyond just a choc cake..yum and Sue.. nothing like a yummy rusk with afternoon tea. Well done, Stars. Xx

Man Alive I'm hungry now...!

It's really nice of you guys to write about how good the food was when the rest of us can't eat any :)

Get baking Mike, and you too can be the proud owner of a 'Sarah's Rocking Bread'.
Or try bribing her.

Haha... Sarah's did look like the best (no offense to the rest).

If you can get her to bake me a loaf, I'll donate an extra R100 to the Bake Off.

Umm, how about Thursday?

So do I need to bring some jam and a proof of deposit, or is my word good enough for you? :)

Thanks, Mike.

Thursday's good.
I'm not too sure Jam would be the ideal accompaniment though;-)

Se you then.

Ok, bread is baked.
Come and get it ;-)
