A German hardware supplier called Toom, or Toom Baumarkt to be precise, released this snappy little viral video last year in order to promote the store’s online competition which challenged entrants to submit their top do-it-yourself tips and tricks.

The winning handyman (or handywoman) walked away with €5000 (roughly R72 000) for the best idea, but it was the success of this viral that was the real winner.

This nutty German backyard engineer obviously got sick of the boy-racers up and down his block and decided to throw subtlety out the window and go with this effective, if over enthusiastic retaliation. One way or another, his home made speed bumps must have created quite a stir with the local council.

Street noise can get a bit much, and speeding is especially dangerous in urban areas. I’m pretty sure most of us have felt like taking these kinds of measures at some stage – but I just can’t help but imagine this handyman living alongside the Autobahn.
