Friday Fact Box - Mommy Bloggers

by Katharina Scholtz

2008/11/28

Little kids freak me out (I feel better now that I've shared that). Many women, who are not so bizarre, love the things so much that they go out and get some of their own. It seems that many of these fabulous women are also incredibly active online - now there's something I can relate to. That's right - this week we have some stats on mommy bloggers (for some other fun stats on gender habits online, check out this post).

And on another note - do you find the Fact Box valuable? Let me know (even if it's no, I can take it) or tell me what topics you'd like covered. I demand answers! (Ok maybe I am just humbly requesting them, seeing as I can't reach through the screen and make you tell me.)

From Mom Blog Marketing - Katie CouricGives Us Blogging by the Numbers (August 2008)

  • 36 million women read or write a blog every week and are interested in politics, the environment, the economy and being moms.
  • 46% of mommy bloggers have contributed to a cause or a political campaign.

From Marketing Charts - Mom Bloggers More Likely to Be SocNet Addicts (November 2008)

  • Mom bloggers are 71% more likely to indicate being addicted to a social network when compared with moms who know nothing about blogs --> Ed's Note: I was amazed they needed a study to prove this.
  • When viewing ads online, relevance is rated by mom bloggers as the most important factor. Special offers and uniqueness of ads rated lowest, suggesting advertisers should place more importance on media placement rather than creativity.

From Marketing Charts - Study Unearths Super-Connected 'Digital Divas'  (November 7th)

  • The study also found that mothers – especially those with new babies – view the internet as their link to the outside world.

From Reuters - DivineCaroline.com Reaches 2 Million Unique Visitors in April  (May 2008)

  • According to ComScore Media Metrix's year-end report, "women's community" was the most visited and fastest growing internet category, tied with politics.
  • The number of unique visits to women's community sites jumped 35% to almost 70 million from 52 million.

From At Home with Kim Vallee - Women Market Statistics Are Looking Great for Women & Mom blogs (September 2008)

  • 88% of mothers said the Internet has helped them stay connected to the world.
  • 85% believed technology has made their life as a mother easier.
  • 66% said they relied more on technology since they became a parent.
