Ed's Note: We're working our way through the Quirk services and offices, and this week we feature the Johannesburg QuirkStars. We covered account managers a few weeks ago, which gives one an idea of what the Jozi office does, but we felt a bit of the office personality had to be shared as well. Enjoy!
Having come from a big corporate, (the green bank) joining Quirk was quite an adjustment. Going from 4 000 people under one roof to just 4 was kind of daunting. I soon learned that in a small office you become your own IT guy, tea lady, furniture remover and developer of many other unique crafts like lunch time smore creation…
A day in the Jozi office starts with Mary arriving at about 3am (I’m not even kidding) while the rest of us start our days at around 8am. Our recent addition Yasin brings the noise to the office. Charl is the quiet one in the corner but he has his days of insanity that make for some fun Seinfeld moments.
Jeanette, Charl, Mary and Yasin
If we are not on the phone with the QuirkStation in Cape Town we are out meeting with our clients. Once a day Yasin will declare his love for Charl as his mentor, next Yasin and I will have a go at each other about whose country of birth is better (Pile of dust-Kenya or Pile of Rocks-Lesotho) and then Mary will crack the whip in an attempt to instil some weird fear in all of us. Ours is a cosy little joint of hard work and colourful characters.
Our day is filled with work, more work, oh and some more work - we the foot soldiers of the Quirk army.
