The Breadline Africa Seaside Party

by Damian Burke

2008/12/09

The annual Breadline Africa Seaside Party took place last Friday (the 5th of December) and Smallz and I volunteered to help keep the 75+ kids in check and safe from harm during their end of year Christmas celebrations.

For those not already baking, blogging and donating - Breadline Africa, one of our clients, is a charity organisation that raises money from benefactors around the globe via the Internet to support grassroots projects in sub-Saharan Africa.

The kids arrived at the Strand beachfront in the blazing mid-morning sun in two big busses for some summertime festivities during their big end of year Christmas celebration.

Two jumping castles, swing ball and other games on the beach kept the children active while volunteers prepared for supervising them in the water.
Many of the kids had never seen sea sand before, never mind the open water. Some found their ‘sea legs’ easily, while others bolted for the safety of the shore.

After some basic body-surfing and beach-ball bouncing, it was back to the beach for face-painting and a lunch provided by the donors to Breadline Africa.

Smallz and Father Christmas

But the best was soon to come, as Father Christmas popped into the Strand beach clubhouse to wish the kids a merry Christmas and give them each a personalised present and a lucky packet of sweets and other treats.
After Father Christmas made his way off along the beach, the day wound down and the children were noticeably tired from the long day of excitement and activity.
Back into the buses and off again until next year, the Breadline Africa Seaside Party was a roaring success.

The Breadline Africa Worldwide Blogger Bake Off

The Worldwide Blogger Bake Off is a contest run by Breadline Africa which invites bloggers to bake bread and give dough. By baking a loaf of bread, blogging about it and making a donation, the message is spread further and Breadline Africa is one step closer to the goal of US$1 Million for the alleviation of poverty in Africa.

well done to all the people involved in making (yet another) annual beach party such a success and bringing joy to the hundreds of kids that attend.
Well done to the 'well fed kiddy' on Father Christmas's lap for making the effort to represent Quirk at the outing this year and experience one of the many projects which Breadline Africa fund and organise. Many of these kids have never been to the seaside before.

Update-
One of the kids has asked if Smallz could be Father Christmas next yr. Smallz are you up for it?

John, of course I am up for being Father Christmas. I was just a little scared that they would not believe in a Father Christmas who does not look like they are from up north (ie. of fairer skin) ;-) May have had to answer too many uncomfortable questions!

I don't think I would be able to live with myself if I messed with 75+ kids impression of Christmas.
