Team Quirk UK (AKA Team Rocket) is without doubt the most spontaneous of the QuirkStations. That’s right. I just threw out that gauntlet to CPT and Jozi (that’s eMarketing gang speak for Cape Town and Johannesburg).
We have no mountain, no sea, and yes it could be said, no sun. So why can we claim this elite status? Here’s how the typical day goes (mashing up a few highlights from the last month).
Gawain, Matt, Janet, Sarah & Nic
8am: I get a text from Sarah telling me that I’m the official ‘Tea B*&ch’ for the day .Yet again she has won the first into the office award. (Yes – she is lame).
9 am– 10 am: We are seated in our ergonomically designed office chairs, sipping on fresh and tasty Mocha-Chino-Orange-Skinny-Frappes and attacking the inbox. I’m sure I can hear Gawain is whistling ‘Wake me up before you go-go’.
We plan the day ahead. Who’s got which meeting, what conference call etc. and then we disperse, like a well oiled machine (or tiny sprogs that make a well oiled machine).
We have a client base spanning the US, UK, Australia and Israel. So the rest of the day is unpredictable (we sometimes need to work around our clients work days).
10 am – 7:30 pm: Meetings, reviews ,war stories, new business meetings etc. etc. Typically they go something like this….
- Nic: Reviewing secret SEM project with major movie studio. Going well. We need to start thinking about the next movie.
- Matt: Meeting at Google London to discuss the Catlin Arctic Survey Google Earth Layer. It’s going to help influence decision making on the Kyoto Protocol.
- Gawain: We are developing a new site and marketing plan for a premium cosmetics surgery clinic in Sloane Square. Gawain is on the case.
- Janet: After attending every single Web2.0 / 3.0 /Social-Media-next-best-thing conference, she’s on her way to the E-consultancy Innovation awards. We win. Go Team
- Sarah: After actually stepping in ‘The’ tube gap, and narrowly escaping death, she survives to co-ordinate the finishing touches to London’s premium Laser Eye surgery’s new site. Watch this space.
- Nic and Matt: Print giant cheque and go to Paris to award the lucky Idea Bounty winner.
It’s very rare that we have a standard day. There is always a lot of hustle and even in the shadow of the credit crisis there is lots of opportunity out there – you just need to look for it. Nic is always keeping the team on our toes and the happy dance of a busy office is the only dependable occurrence.
