T-Mobile Gets Funky

My favourite viral of the week comes from T-Mobile and is, in my two-left-feet-uncoordinated opinion, pretty damn awesome. The basic premise sent 350 dancers into Liverpool Street Station to (seemingly) spontaneously burst into dance. Starting off with only a few random people doing some rather interesting dance moves, the entire station eventually appears to be moving as one.

Hidden cameras captured onlookers’ reactions and (I’m sure much to T-Mobile’s delight) found some people filming the event on their phones. The music is funky, the dancing is cool and somehow it spoke to my teenage love for lame movies where all the kids just knew how and moved in awesome unison at the prom.

The only problem lies in the message behind the campaign – basically, how sad would you be if cool things like this happened and you had no phone to film it and show your friends? This is a little unclear (or it could just be Friday and we are tired) and the final slogan “Life’s for Sharing” doesn’t really get it across.

This video is part of a huge multimedia campaign, complete with a country-wide tour for the dancers and a YouTube channel where you can upload your own videos and see behind the scenes snips of the dancers’ escapades. According to Lysa Hardy, Head of Brand and Communications, the campaign intends to connect T-Mobile with its customers in a new way, while also reinforcing its strong history of innovation and sharing-based services.

So, be sure to wear your dancing shoes next time you take the Underground – even if you’re with Orange.
