A recent survey by Careers24 revealed some interesting and in-depth statistics about employment in South Africa’s various industries.

Points to Ponder

  • Large companies that have thousands of employees are more likely to pay their staff better than their smaller counterparts.
  • Women tend to dominate the lower salary categories, while from R24 000 upwards, the male population generally earn significantly more - and even more so in the upper age groups.
  • Generally speaking, the white population are able to earn the most from just a matric education, while Indians with postgraduate qualifications earn much more than any other group with honours, masters or a doctorate.
  • Business and management skills are amongst the most valued in South African industry, while arts and humanities are among the least sought after.
