Using iconic footage and an iconic star Pepsi are attempting to associate themselves with those lucrative attributes - revolution, youth and cool.
Bob Dylan and Will.i.am are the celebrities who are supposed to bridge the generational gap - I assume chosen based on Will.i.am's association with the Obama campaign and Dylan's association with musical and political revolution.
The advert is incredibly well produced (read: expensive) and an interesting watch. It could also be a little controversial because of the stars they've chosen to compare (I'm not convinced Will.i.am is quite in the same league as Dylan).
Pepsi's certainly doing well with channeling the feeling of change following Obama's inauguration - and have translated this into their final slogan: refresh everything.
While they've hit a good combination of viral attributes, I can't help but see the ad as a little transparent. What do you think?
