Ask anyone who lives in Cape Town how they feel about their mountain and you will find that most - ok all of them - will tell you to leave it alone. Table Mountain, you could argue, is a major part of any Capetonian’s identity and doing anything to it WILL provoke a reaction, more than likely an aggressive one.
This week’s viral takes the form of a question posed to a construction worker, on site at the Green Point Stadium.
To give a little background, the video comes off of www.protestit.co.za which is a spoof site claiming that there is a plan to renovate Table Mountain and add a peak to it. This would give it a "more European feel" apparently.
I admit that this is going to be more amusing to people who actually live in Cape Town. We'll pass it on purely because it involves a part of our identity. We are pretty sure this is just a tactic to draw people in and make them aware of a wider campaign. There is a very prominently displayed ad (the only one on the site) for Earth Day in the title banner - this seems like the perfect set up for an awareness campaign around Earth Day 2009.
At this point the video isn't really viral but we think it has potential. What do you think? Is this going somewhere bigger?
