Tweeting E-Tourism Africa

by Mary Mzumara

Following a busy weekend at #indaba09 where we blogged, tweeted and vlogged for South African Tourism, I left the Jozi QuirkStation last Friday (15th May) for the E-Tourism Roadshow with the team from E-Tourism Africa.

The roadshow consists of a series of seminars that are moving through east Africa covering Kampala, Kigali, Nairobi, Mombassa, Arusha and Zanzibar. I’m covering Kampala and Kigali before handing the baton to Rob in Nairobi.

I left QuirkStation Jozi on Friday for Kampala Uganda on SAA and (luckily for me) I got upgraded to business – thank you South African Airways :). After a 4 hour flight I arrived in Kampala at 7pm and in the city centre (45Kms away) 2 hours later – you can’t win with traffic! Kampala is a busy, bustling city built on a rolling hill. It’s lush, green and tropical – a long way from Jozi in the winter.

Kampala, Uganda

Kampala, Uganda - where Mary is now at the E-Tourism Africa conference.

It’s day one of the E-Tourism roadshow and so far we’ve had Damian Cook present on trends in digital marketing, revenue models for tourism businesses in Uganda and a host of other topics. There’s been some lively debate around the challenges that tour operators have with booking gorilla tours.

I’m tweeting the events right now. Keep following Quirk eMarketing on Twitter for updates.

Hi, it would appear that UWA is in need of some serious creative input on their site. Paul
