As was mentioned on the Idea Bounty blog last week, Cannes Young Lions and YouTube released a crowdsourcing brief for Oxfam. Basically, given 48 hours, participants were expected to make a promotional advert for Oxfam and upload it to YouTube. It then gets voted on by viewers (according to views, ratings and creativity). Oh and lest we forget - the winners are heartily rewarded (with an all-expense paid trip to Cannes). Pretty awesome concept I say.
So, I spent some time watching a few of these and came up with my top 3. I thought The Elephant and the Hummingbird spoke volumes with simple animation, the Strange Oxfam Ad was thought provoking and had an interesting approach. My personal favourite was the “Crazy Skydiver” – because this advert got the call-to-action message across, made an impact and left an impression (and a smile on my face). Simple, effective and original. And with 8566 views already, it seems that I’m not the only one who thinks so.
Which advert blows your charity hair back? Check out these ads on YouTube and vote for your favourite. And remember, keep it clean, keep it green.

l am 64 and have lived in many countries during my life, including SA, and have lived through many calamities but never before have l felt such feelings of imminent dread, our democracy(British) is in doubt due to the expenses scandal which dominates our newspapers at the moment, the war in Afghanistan, thousands of Tamil women and children languishing in concentration camps in Sri-Lanka malnurished and thirsty, and voices from over the Atlantic calling for an all out war with Iran.
Well having watched these clips has cheered me up no end, that there are still idealistic people about who are able to provoke thought while retaining a sense of humour. l like all of them equally,--- and will be visiting my local Oxfam shop next week with a spring in my step.
