This morning, I was shocked to read that Microsoft's Outlook 2010 will be using Word to render HTML emails, the same rendering engine used for Outlook 2007. This makes me sick to the core!!
When Outlook 2007 was released, the sheer number of developers around the world that have voiced their opinion about how bad it was, was pretty impressive. But clearly it’s had no impact what so ever.
The guys over at Campaign Monitor have, yet again, been the leaders in fighting this battle. A few years ago they brought us the Email Standards Project, this initiative was set up in a direct response to the release of Outlook 2007. Their aims were to work with developers of the various different companies to improve email standards. This was embraced by most email client developers but clearly ignored by the developers of Outlook.
So what are we going to do about this? Well, Campaign Monitor has set up fixoutlook.org.
All you have to do is to tweet your Outlook issues and include this URL somewhere in your tweet: fixoutlook.org. All the tweets containing that URL will then be gathered and one message will be sent to Microsoft voicing all the concerns. So please, please, please make yourself heard and head over to fixoutlook.org now!
