Office 2010: The Movie

by Tim Withers

I consider myself a man of impeccable taste – a distinguished gentleman, if you will – so I’m somewhat perturbed by my affinity for this week’s viral. Watching it makes me feel wild and dirty – like that time I was forced to stay at a 4 star hotel – and it’s all quite liberating.

Office 2010: The Movie is Microsoft’s overblown trailer for Office 2010 and since its appearance 8 days ago it’s caught on like the bubonic plague.  It’s completely out of sorts with the Office brand identity, but what does Microsoft care?  835,907 views and 667 blog posts later, and it’s one of the most popular viral clips this month.

Exactly how successful it will be in driving sales is anyone’s guess – I’m guessing not particularly – but I’m sure Microsoft is quite chuffed with the exposure it’s received online, especially in an environment dominated by Michael Jackson tributes (and those diabolical roller skating babies).

So, go ahead and have a look. I know Dan isn’t a fan, but, if there’s something we can all appreciate, it’s seeing Clippit meet his untimely demise. Good riddance, you metallic twerp. I hope it was slow and painful.

A rouge font? Transient hypnosis? no wait even better - "the visionary creators of office 2002 - 2003"

Ok look, its a really good ad in its creativeness and iv watched it a couple of times. Its just that I dont feel that the ad is anywhere like the actual product and people know it. I mean not even Apple is cool enough to advertise a product like this in my mind. But maybe its just me.

But hey, office 2010 could be a completely new beast - although I pray to the gods Clippit wont be resurrected as some metallic zombie.

Yeah dude, that's exactly how I feel.

I enjoyed watching it, but there's no denying that this is one painfully pretentious piece of advertising.

As for Clippit... we all know he's alive and well, masquerading as a staple in some far flung corner of the globe.

Hey Dan - The font didn't look the color of lipstick.
