The New QuirkStation and Prizes for You!

by Katharina Scholtz

2009/08/06

The move to our new office has meant a lot to all of us here at Quirk, so naturally we wanted to share it with you. We endured some heavy lifting last Saturday, and have put together a little video tribute.

Before we get to that though, and in honour of the move, we have an opportunity for you to win prizes in :

THE QUIRKPACK OF JOY

Containing:

Seriously - the pack of joy is full of eMarketing goodness and is worth over R27 000; the spot in the course being a serious win. All we want in return is a suggestion for our office mascot and its name. A platypus named Leroy? A cabbage called Samantha? A mythical horse with three legs, a second head and a serious love for salsa? I presume these ideas would all fail, but yours will be better. I just know it.

And now, the main feature:

Nice one Daniel Kolossa (video and all round nice guy). The awesome track was created by dopaminex.

So suggest an idea for a mascot, we'll choose the one we like best and voila - an eMarketing starter pack like no other could be yours. So what are you waiting for? Tweet an idea at QuirkeMarketing on Twitter, suggest your idea here in the comments or mail me at info@gottaquirk.com. The competition will close at midnight on Tuesday the 11th of August and the winner will be announced in our fortnightly newsletter. (*extended to Friday the 14th).

Yasin, a lovely Quirk designer, created this suggestion below which might offer some inspiration:

A Quirk Mascot?

Good luck!

Comments

going with the whole quirkstar & quirkstation themes.

Create a superman superhero type character. Tight tights, underwear on the outside, logo on the chest, cape etc. us geeks like the pirates vs ninja's thing so use some ninja themes in it, and add a little blue parrot on his shoulder for good pirate measure.

Superpowers include downloading skills from the net directly to his noggin & tweeting out thoughts automatically (which can get embarassing at times)

His pad aka the Quirkstation can resemble the star trek Enterprise with the various quirk crew caricatured to their err quirks.

comic strip anyone?

forgot to add a name:
hmmm something simple & easy -
"Q"

Offices look awesome, well done team Quirk!

I would suggest Pow A. Surge, Chuck Norris' illegitimate love child.

He isn't as well known globally as his father (to be fair there can be only one), but in the online world he is all knowing, the solution to the problem, the twit in Twitter, the face in Facebook (I'm sure you are getting my drift).

Online, people speak about him in hushed tones and hidden text. He is so with it that Google comes to him for permission to search...

I have his personal details if you are interested!

How about an Imaginary Facebook Friend named Professor Brainstorm, who is also a dog.

Your office mascot's name is:
Sugar Plum Fairy

How bout a magnified and animated 'fly on a wall' with a mischievous grin

Posted by PC on 2009/08/12

I love him!

He is a geek (glasses), geeks are cool.
He is a ginger, even cooler.
And he seems all "holistic" mind, body and spirit, just like the way Quirk does eMarketing.

Not sure about the pink T though, everyone knows gingers cant wear pink! ;-)

Love the new office. I got an idea cricket mad Rob will like, how about a David Boon looking charachter, Moustache, cricket bat and all, who is now learning Emarketing, every week he can tell the subscribers the news and what he has learnt. cheers Gareth

Okay i've sat and thought about this long and hard and I'm going to stick with Captain Kirk... errr... Captain Quirk.

My design skills are useless, but I'm sure you've got someone who can knock something together.

I'm not a Trekkie at all so can't even come up with any good puns, but reckon it fits in with the theme.

And any excuse to make William Shatner's Rocketman an office anthem should be welcomes with open arms.

he he.

Being the mascot for Quirk is not an easy job. As the mascot you would have to be aware of trends and be flexible enough to change with the times. Also a mascot for Quirk should be able to respond and hold its own in the office antics, and be willing to provide gobbets of useful inspirational information when needed. It is shown that idea creation happens in an environment of fun and light-heartedness. So with these criteria in mind, I suggest that Quirk recruits:

1) Brand-in Velcromort
Brand-in is a mannequin brought to life by having Velcro for skin. He can have a wardrobe, maybe changed once a month, but very stylish of course. Brand-in's personality gets built up over time, by everyone in the office. This is done by attaching badges, logos, notes, fake facial hair, paper drawn facial expressions (see robot chicken) etc. See the appendix links for inspiration on cool old famous mascots. By purchasing different body parts (from the wonderful but eerie maneqquin shops in Woodstock) Brand-in can not only change his skin but can change his posture. Thoughtful atlas. Graceful Greek discuss thrower. Shmodel.

2) Penelope Pin-up
Of-course Brand-in might need a partner to bear the load of this responsibility. So Penelope could be Brand-in's equal to level out the office representation, but in this case, Penelope is made from cork and items are pinned to her. She builds up her personality and moves in the same way as Brand-in.

Chopman is able to inspire, motivate and clarify ideas and ensure that no-one in the office ever ever goes home saying that they had a bad day at their Quirkstation. Mascots just don't get any better than this!!!

Check it out; he even has his own FaceBook fan group -
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=124315525904

If ever there was a mascot for a group of web 2.0 and social media junkies, ChopMan would be the first choice.

Over and out - have a rocking day

AKA - ChopMan :-)

Optimise Prime

The robotic leader of tweaking, checking, re-an@lysing, adjusting and basically everything integral to e marketing.

Plus he has laserssssss!

ok perhaps this is been used in some other way - but i was thinking a Professor Quirk. A mad scientist, rocking his lab quote with random outburst of why content is king and theories of why emarketing will be the best thing since sliced bread.

Professor Quirk will always be conducting experiments to show why black hat seo is a no no so would be Quirksters understand.

He'd have odd quirk habits like popping in on twitter to tell people a Professor Quirk SEO tip of the day or he'd ramble on his blog about why social media is another tool to communicate and not a strategy.

Hi Quirk Team,

Video is great and the stations are looking awesome, I have put some thought into the new office mascot and here is my thinking..

Because Quirk is defined as an oddity of personality or way of doing something or something that is irregular like a mannerism.

I present you: (cue in big grand piano...TA DA)

CHARACTER NAME: "Capreese" (odd way of spelling Caprice - could always make the character named something different)

IDEA BEHIND IT: This fits into Quirk's ethos of always looking for innovative, different, irregular, non conformed ideas to create awesome strategies for clients

THE LOOK: A young genius looking character in a very irregular looking form with bubbles coming off his head with wacky and alternative ideas

I can see what this looks like in my head but lack of photo shop experience inhibits me to do so :)

I hope its a winner

Good luck for the new offices

-Gidon
