After reading Is Google Digital Meth? (an interesting blog post about an interesting article) I realised that there can be only one logical choice for... drum-roll... this week’s Site of Note.
I stumbled upon that excellent blog post whilst systematically sifting through about twenty open tabs filled with compelling, fresh and beautifully crafted websites to find the worthy “Site of Note”.
All of those tabs were spawned from one rather spiffy website called Designbombs; a website that showcases the latest and greatest in Web Design. You’ve got to love their tag-line.
Now, simply being a design pimp with a cool tag-line wouldn't qualify it as the... Site of Note. I state that the design of designbombs is simply off the hook! It is clean-cut, fresh, slightly off the wall and playful. Attention was clearly given to the small details. I have returned to it again and again, just to admire it and also to find out how they did it (which is more than I can say for a lot of the sites that get showcased by them).
I really love the cloud motif of the header.
How cool is this footer?
Notice how the little bomb blinks in the subscribe heading.
I also like how the navigation item division lines fade in from the left.
and maybe I should stop there because I could go on for a while...
The site was designed by the brilliant Soh Tanaka, who thankfully shares his knowledge about front-end Web Development and design in his excellent blog, which you should also check out. His website designs are characterised by strong graphical elements which set his designs apart from the everyday run-of-the-mill websites out there. His work is a prime example of what happens when an artist employs the tools of the trade as opposed to the mediocre same-old, same-old designs that get defined by the tools of the trade.
To conclude this post I would like to bring you back to the my sentence - Designbombs is my Digital Meth.
