Ed's Note: Mr. Smith, who also happens to be one of our clients, has been a guest poster on GottaQuirk before and we enjoy his slightly zany ideas. When he approached us with his current plan we could not help but offer him some space to share it. So do take a look at what he's up to - frankly, it's nuts. But we love it.

I present you with Codename: Avian. A winged solution to our data problems. Launching 09.09.09
An interesting experiment is going to come from Durban in the next few weeks.
Can data be transmitted between two points faster by a bird than by digital means? Can a bird “out -deliver” our land-based telecom providers? Can it be powered and encouraged by Social Media?
The broadband revolution has come and gone. Seacom, the new cable to the Internet, is taking forever. The ADSL price war is still simmering and is not providing the answers to the connectivity issues in our country right now. It's time to make a change, go back to the roots of the past, because that's how innovation is born.
I'm looking for ideas and support from you guys to drive my birdy idea. And I have so many questions:
- Is twitter the place to drive this?
- Is there a secret cabal on twitter?
- Facebook Page vs Group?
- What is the wingspeed of a pigeon?
- Can blog comments drive a movement?
- What should the Codename Avian recruit be named?
I plan to find out. Let's begin with something simple and trust the crowd with the beginning.
What can we name our “warrior”? We want ideas from you.
Leave your suggestions in the comments or tweet them to @pigeonrace2009 with the #pigeonrace2009.
Then spread the word of the bird with the RT message below and link to this post:

*Update:
We Have a Winner!
I chose a shortlist of names before the 27 Dinner in Durban last night. They were:
- Wing Crosby
- Airton Senna
- Iggy
- Steve
- Winston
- Birdi
At the end of my presentation I asked the assembled “geeks” (what's the collective noun for a collection of geeks?) and Winston won 7-6!
Thanks to all who helped out. Please DM @pigeonrace2009 with your name so that we can maybe send you a small something something...while stocks last.
