Save the Boobs

This morning, I found out that my God Mother, who I completely adore, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I’ve never really thought about breast cancer until today, when it truly hit home. So, given that October is international breast cancer awareness month, these virals should fit in well – and they will hopefully make others stand up and take notice.

The first campaign, by the Rethink Breast Cancer Initiative, was to raise awareness of breast cancer. They did this by throwing in a typical pool-side party scene with a woman, wearing a skimpy white number with very striking assets (read: huge boobs). Amidst the juggling mammary glands, the message was simple – save the boobs. Everyone appreciates them – so take care of them. Check it out. 145,296 other people have.

The second viral, Yoplait Pledge, seems to be targeted predominantly at women, with less assets on show and more underlying commentary. The ad features women of all shapes and sizes pledging allegiance to their gazongas and keeping them healthy and in check. ‘Cause after all, we owe ourselves that much, so like Youplait says - know your girls, lower the risk and take the pledge. Do it. (via Viral Blog)

No. We shouldn't save breasts so that dudebros can leer at us; we should save women's lives. And if the breasts need to go, then they need to go.

@ Joy-Mari - I agree with you. The first viral was just to raise awareness and perhaps tap into the male sector too. I think that the second viral message aims to educate women about the importance of regular checks. Which in the long run could prevent any need for major surgery.

Have a look at the Breast Cancer PSA by actresses Emily Deschanel, Alyson Hannigan, Minka Kelly, Jamie King and Kat McPhee.

It's called The Booby Scare - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n6Xo3osdQ4
