by Mari Basson

2009/10/11

“July 22 1941. The girl next door is getting married. Anne Frank is leaning out of the window of her house in Amsterdam to get a good look at the bride and groom. It is the only time Anne Frank has ever been captured on film. At the time of her wedding, the bride lived on the second floor at Merwedeplein 39. The Frank family lived at number 37, also on the second floor.”

Once her diary became public the couple recognised Anne in their wedding video and contacted her father to give him the video clip.

There’s something truly magical about this video. For decades the young dark haired girl has captured the hearts and imaginations of people all over the world and finally we have a glimpse of her in real-life. This is the first and only time Anne Frank has ever been captured on film and The Anne Frank Museum is sharing it with the world. It's a notable move and a great demonstration of how different mediums can bring hitsory to life. This video has been released in line with with the museums new YouTube channel, which you can check out here. More than 2 Million views is testament to how succesful the idea is.

The Anne Frank Museum’s YouTube channel also features clips of others, including her late father Otto and Nelson Mandela, talking about Anne.
