What the iPhone does, it does very well indeed, but there’s a lot it doesn’t do. For starters, it doesn’t have a full keyboard, it can’t run simultaneous apps, and its camera doesn’t have a flash.

Motorola has honed in on these chinks in the iPhone’s armour with its DroidDoes campaign. Aimed at driving sales of the upcoming Droid smartphone, the campaign presents it as the answer to all the iPhone’s shortcomings.

It doesn’t hold back, and with a video with 1,150,731 views under its belt, it’s done a stellar job of creating hype around the Droid’s imminent arrival.

Now the hardware simply needs to deliver on its end of the bargain. On paper it looks like a T-1000 Terminator to the iPhone’s Wall-E, and it could provide some legitimate, Android-powered competition in time for the holiday season.

If it does, I may just have to hold off buying that Boy George Gold Collection until next year.
