The Space Chair Project Redefines Armchair Viewing

by Mari Basson

2009/11/29

To promote its new line of LCD TVs, the Regsa SV, Toshiba sent a chair to the edge of space – a maximum height of 98 268 feet above earth. The chair, attached to a helium balloon and Toshiba’s IK-HR1S 1080i camera was launched in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. The entire process was filmed.

The result is a stunning commercial by Grey UK showing some spectacular images and illustrating Toshiba’s tagline ‘Leading innovation’ beautifully. This is officially the highest ad in the world – an ad as innovative as the brand.

The chair that took 83 minutes to reach an altitude of 98 268 feet tumbled back to earth in 24 minutes. Needless to say it isn’t with us today, but will forever live in our hearts as the highest chair in the world.

The making of video is quite impressive too:

I really don't care about the chair. Just wanted to use this comment box to say that Mari is hot!

I concur! I visit the Gottaquirk blog every day, just to stare at her profile pic.

Glad I'm not the only one.
