Invictus has certainly grabbed the attention of the QuirkStation. Not only is it yet another great movie from Clint Eastwood - the man churns out masterpiece after masterpiece - but it also covers a subject matter very close to the heart of every South African.
The events were so monumental and awe-inspiring that all who lived through them have a massive personal connection with that period.
One of the defining moments of that era was the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final and, more specifically, Joel Stransky’s winning drop goal in the dying minutes of extra time.
At the final, Kevin James took what was to become the most iconic photo in South African sports history, and one of the most iconic in any sport worldwide.
Now that photo has been put up on Facebook. If you were at the match you can go and tag yourself (or your friends) in it. Even if you weren’t there, then please feel free to drop a comment into the album or onto the fan page.
Given the context we feel that this offers a chance to develop a great sense of community in the social network and to relive a little bit of the magic from that important era. You’ll see that even Francois has tagged himself! Even now, visiting the page is enough to send chills up my spine.
Obviously the full-sized photo is much too large for any single Facebook pic, so we’ve taken the full photo and labelled individual areas with a grid (you’ll see this on the second photo in the album).
Find where you were on that grid, go to the relevant photo (the photo captions/order follows the grid’s layout) and get tagging!
