Fifty People, One Question

"Aye, you know, uh, your cat that disappeared? I ran it over."

"Hmm, let's see. You know, like, you know all those books that I have that I don't let you read?"

"Yeah."

"It's just all these love poems that are about you."

Secrets are fascinating things. They provide glimpses into the human experience: haunting, shocking, humorous and often beautiful. Secrets are powerful – they can destroy and liberate. Sharing them can be empowering.

Post Secret is proof of this. The ongoing mail art project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard was founded in January 2005 and has become somewhat of a pop culture phenomenon. The blog is updated on a weekly basis and many of the entries are printed in book form.

Recently a viral video was made to promote the latest Post Secret book, Confessions of Life, Death, and God. The video contains the elements that have made the blog and books so incredibly impactful – swift encounters with raw human emotion. But for the first time ever, it’s not anonymous. We see the faces of the secret sharer, we share the brief hesitant moments before they let go and the relief they experience afterwards.

There are some incredible moments in this video – ones that will make you laugh and some that may possibly make you cry (I did, at least).
