HIV Aides - Promiscuous Graffiti

Before you condemn me for spelling the world’s most perilous pandemic incorrectly, or for posting a video of animated reproductive organs in a dingy Metro bathroom, I implore you to hear me out. AIDES, meaning ‘support’ in French, is the largest active NGO in France working on HIV related issues. The inniative can be found in over 100 cities, with 400 staff members, over 1000 registered volunteers and partnerships in both Europe and sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of the organisation is to create awareness, and unite people living with the disease into an organised community and support network. Furthermore, the civil service promotes best practices and advocates access to care and promotes prevention.

Besides the humanitarian endeavour, you have to admit, this bizarre viral campaign is rather brilliant. The spot was released earlier this month, by TBWA Paris for the Public Health and Safety Sector.  This follows in a long line of controversial HIV adverts from the agency (check out one of TBWA’s previous print campaigns, winning a Bronze medal at Cannes). The viral video explores the journey of a lonely, promiscuous penis through the grimy hallows of an underground French Metro bathroom. Unable to find love, our protagonist, with a little help, soon finds himself as the Don Juan of the washbasin. Both highly controversial and creative, viral video once again proves its power of spreading a campaign online. Check it out:
