Looking Like a Fool With Your Pants on the Ground

***Warning: Today’s viral is alarmingly catchy and you will not, I repeat not, be able to get this tune out of your head.

I love Idols – and I don’t care if that’s lame – my favourite part of the show tends to be the cringe worthy auditions and when I hunkered down for the 3 hour American Idol season 9 premier show two weeks ago, I was not disappointed. On that note, here’s a message for all the mothers of the world: do not encourage your child to explore a talent which they very obviously don’t have (but secretly... thanks for doing it).

After many a laugh, a Mr Larry Platt – clearly older than the Idols age limit stepped onto the X and announced that he was going to sing a song of his own creation – and so the phenomenon of Pants on the Ground was born. It was so catchy and when Simon Cowell announced that he thought it could be a hit, I hopped online and headed over to YouTube and the results proved him right – guess that’s why he earns the big bucks.

This particular video had 4,264,439 YouTube views at the time of writing this post.

4 days after premiering in the US there were already countless YouTube videos of his audition, blog posts and remixes! Now two weeks (or so) on, there are t-shirts, record deals, million plus member fan groups, games, remixes, renditions of the song by everyone and their dog – including Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Brett Favre - and appearances for Larry on shows like The View.

Pants on the Ground is being hailed as 2010’s first viral phenomenon and a quick Google search for the phrase “pants on the ground” proves it. I do hope Mr Platt is successful in his mission to rid the world of fools who walk around with their pants on the ground because, let’s face it – if you’re not David Beckham, no one wants to see your underwear (ladies… that link is my weekend treat for you).

You’ve gotta love the Internet!
