Monday morning Bob Skinstad was arrested and taken to a cell in the V&A Waterfront where he would spend the next week. It’s all to raise awareness of a great campaign called BobsForGood, a foundation that aims to give South African youths school shoes.
As quoted on News24.com Bob says, “What child wants to go to school when they know they will be teased, when they know that they will stand out? I believe every child has the right to own a pair of school shoes because it’s an important step in giving children a sense of pride and dignity, thus enhancing the child’s education.”
It’s a cause that Bob is willing to go to jail for (almost) literally. Now he needs to be bailed out in order to take these shoes to the kids who so desperately need it.
Bob has been “messing around” (so, he says) with Social Media in his own personal capacity for a while. He believes that it holds great potential if done right and decided it’s the way to go to seed BobsForGood awareness. So far, he says the support from the online community and bloggers has been amazing and his been contacted by many corporates too.
The jail cell has provided that “physical touch” to the Social Media campaign and it’s working: The V&A is a frenzy of people all excited to help out. Bob spends nights in the cell too and uses the centre’s restrooms, and had to assure his very worried son that “Daddy’s not going to a real jail”.
Bob gets a lot of media lovin'.
Tomorrow will be Bob’s last day at the V&A, so be sure to drop by and donate to his cause or just pop in to give him a hi-five – the guy’s doing a spectacular job.

l went to school in South Africa during the 50s and very few kids at that time went to school wearing shoes, there was no shame then in fact we were proud of our "tough" feet, that we could walk over Devil thorns and hot tar-mac,-no Athletes feet in those days, no smelly trainers either.
Perhaps as a form of protest schools could insist that ALL kids should come to school barefoot say for a month, that, in my opinion would be more effective than the "behind bars" stunt,-after all it is Lent now, it's purpose is to unite poor and rich be denying ourselves excess.
