Canadian Tourism’s Ingenious Twitter Murals

This is something a little different from our usual viral fare. For starters, there aren’t any illuminated sheep or roller skating babies in sight.

In fact, there’s no fancy lighting, pyrotechnics, or visual trickery on display. It’s a straightforward showcase, but what it showcases happens to be very cool. As a result, it’s gone viral in its own right, clocking up 19,328 views to date.

Basically, the Canadian Tourism Commission wanted to make American tourists aware of all the awesome sights, sounds and attractions in Canada. To do this, they plastered interactive, digital murals on the walls in major cities in the United States.

These consist of 8 x 10ft monitors featuring tweets that passersby can flip through and photos they can enlarge and manipulate. The content is pulled live from specific keywords, and animated in a variety of cool ways to attract attention.

It’s an example of a great concept executed superbly, and the video’s well worth checking out – even if it is accompanied by a synthesized backing track so cheesy it would make a Duran Duran diehard cringe.
