With two of our new courses - in Search Engine Optimisation and Mobile Marketing - starting next week, it seems fitting that the topic for today’s newsletter is Mobile Search. According to eMarketer (via Search Engine Land) “worldwide mobile advertising spend will almost double from $1.289 to $2.345 million from 2010 to 2011.” With numbers like that, it makes sense for marketers to start looking to this area as a new way to reach their consumers. Here are some resources you might find useful for getting started.
1. Get Familiar with the Mobile Search Space
There are a huge number of resources out there on Mobile SEO. In one article, Search Engine Land writes about The New Mobile SEO – What You Need to Know. There’s also Google’s announcement of their acquisition of AdMob which will give you some interesting insight into the mobile search space. Also notable is another post by Search Engine Land on Getting Started with Mobile Search.

If you still need to be convinced that investing in mobile search is important, you should have a look at Stat Counter, as well as reading this article from Accuracast, on Google’s complete domination in the mobile space .

Cool advice. Shows you that SEO needs to be monitored on all platforms and device usages. Most designers/developers forget to design sites to be fully functional on any handheld device etc.
Insane statistic I stumbled upon on mobile usages:
"Get this: 10% of people 24 and younger think it’s OK to text during s#x, according to consumer electronics shopping and review site Retrevo. That brings a whole meaning to the term multitasking."
Maybe with some decent SEO practices, we can move that percentage up to about 50% ;-)
