Kodak 1922

I can only describe this clip as extraordinary.  I love the eerie classical music, the slightly mottled cinematography and the typically beautiful 1920’s actresses - all these elements fitting brilliantly into this beautiful composition, it almost feels as if you’ve travelled through time.

This video features a collection of the earliest colour motion pictures compiled by Kodak in 1922. The first film tests were done in 1914 and this film, shot in Rochester New York, was the third test done.  It was an exciting achievement in its time as the first feature colour film wasn’t released until 13 years later.

The goal of the original test was an attempt to bring colours to life on screen at a time where black and white film was standard. This concept was beautifully achieved on film creating a rather ghostly and almost mystical effect.

Kodak was clever enough to recover this film and take advantage of its exceptional originality. They realised this viral video would grab the attention of users online. Viewers are watching in wonder as well as relating to the brand. It creates a sense of trust to know that Kodak is still successful after all these years! A bright execution– nice one Kodak!
