Gucci and Frank Miller

The luxury brand, Gucci, has joined forces with American heavy-weight comic book writer-turned-film-director, Frank Miller, to create a visual feast.

It's a television commercial/short film to promote the release of Gucci Guilty - the new fragrance for her (essentially an advert for an advert). The aim of this teaser to wet your appetite for the full-length 60 second version of the ad, which will debut during the MTV Music Video Awards on 12 September. The celeb cred of the ad also includes actress, Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans, from Fantastic Four, along with music by Friendly Fires.

Miller has synergised his well-known film noir style and intermittent splashes of colour with the essence of the Gucci brand - sensual and sexy.

Gucci attempts to capture women of today in their advertising and I think that this is pushing boundaries when it comes to advertising fragrances, wouldn't you agree? The video has clocked up 286, 969 views on YouTube since its release last week, but watch this space for the release of the full length version - in the meantime check out the GucciGuilty Facebook page.

Reminds me a lot of the Chanel number 5 ad (which I would even call a short film) done by Baz Luhrmann a few years back. I am really keen to see the adverts telling romantic stories all in a few seconds or minutes worth. Great use of suggestion- could be one's own fantasy.

There seems to be a movement toward short films with advertising creating entertainment by using story tellers and artists to enhance their brand message.

A recent favourite is the short film by Peroni, called Senza Tempo (Timeless). If you appreciate a romantic story then you will enjoy this - it tells the sad love story of a heartbroken director. Check it out: http://bit.ly/8ZeBd1
