Quirk Textbook.

Besides hammering away at the long-awaited 4th Edition of the Quirk eMarketing textbook (get the second here!) and offering UCT students free courses, the folks behind Quirk Education have been gearing up for a very busy next few months.

In March the Education team hosted a successful series of workshops in Online Reputation Management at Cape Town’s favourite, the Daddy Long Legs Hotel, and at the Quirk Station in Jozi, with none other than BrandsEye pirate, Tim Shier.

Using  his signtature repertoire of attention-grabbing tricks (including some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it magic), Tim taught us all about the intricacies of ORM and how a PR disaster could be averted using nothing but a cool head, an open client and old fashioned hard work.

Sarah Blake, the head of Optimisation at Quirk and resident “numbers nerd” is set to host Quirk Education’s second day-long Analytics Workshop in Cape Town on May 4 and Johannesburg on May 6.

Google Analytics.

Sarah will teach us exactly what makes Google Analytics an indispensable tool for any digital marketer.  You’ll learn how to customise your Google Analytics implementation, as well as some advanced uses of Google Analytics (don’t worry, nothing scary!).

Some of the cool things you’ll learn:
  • An overview of how Google Analytics works.
  • How to customise your Google Analytics implementation.
  • Some advanced uses of Google Analytics.
  • How to check through, diagnose and fix implementation issues.
  • Filters and segments: how to use them to make your data powerful.
And if you register before March 31, you’ll get a 10% discount off the total price of R3300.

Quirk Education’s trusty Quirk Certificate Course in eMarketing is set to begin on May 13. The 10-week course - certified by the USB Executive Development Ltd (USB-ED) of the University of Stellenbosch Business School – is the essential digital marketing course.

The introductory course covers every facet of eMarketing and has become the industry benchmark for digital marketing learning.

Quirk Education.

Just a few of the topics covered
  • Website Design and Development
  • Online Copywriting and WebPR
  • SEM, SEO and PPC
  • Social Media and Viral Marketing
  • eMarketing Strategy

Once students have completed the course (and the sometimes scary exam!) they’ll receive a certificate from both Quirk and the USB-ED.

Meanwhile...

Quirk Education's ever-growing content team has been hard at work creating Quirk’s first Email Marketing course.

Email marketing is one of the eMarketing tactics with the highest potential return on investment. This course, which launches on May 6, will help you understand how to manage a successful email marketing campaign for your brand.

Content Lead Katharina Scholtz promises that “as a relationship medium, email marketing is a powerful tool. The Quirk Education course will teach you how to respect the intricacies of that relationship.”

Quirk Education’s successful Search Engine Optimisation course begins May 16 while our newly updated WebPR for Professionals  and Mobile Marketing courses both kick off May 13.

And on May 23 the Applying Social Media to Business Challenges gets underway.

This student favourite is crammed with relevant case studies showing how a keen understanding of social media spaces can be the difference between a PR nightmare and a thriving online community.

Overall, the Quirk Education elves are toiling away, surviving on nothing but filter coffee and a love for all things eLearning while our legion of fans eagerly await the start of what is sure to be an exciting semester.

The Quirk Learning Centre

On the course, students, lecturers and convenors interact via the Quirk Education Learning centre – an online platform designed to facilitate easy communication. Academic support will be provided to the students via the discussion forum and the course convenors can be contacted via email or telephone. Materials, released in modules, usually comprise of:
  • Course notes in PDF format
  • Practice quizzes
  • Case studies
  • Online discussion forum
  • Video tutorials
  • Weekly assignments
  • Recommended reading lists
So if there was ever anything you wanted to know about eMarketing, then you will be sure to find a course which suits your current level of understanding, interests and needs.
