If you prick us, do we not read?

Let’s face it. No one’s born a writer – even the greatest of the great had some kind of inspiration, practice or resources. Below is a list of links - from books, to blogs to tools and tests for you to enjoy.

I’ll ease you into it with this little goosebump-giving clip that illustrates the radical power of words.

Bookshelf besties:

Smoke and Mirrors By Tony Koenderman: “a Book of Quotations that Doubles as a Handbook for Ad Copywriters”. This little book covers both advertising and related topics with more than 1 600 quotes gathered in these pages which include the opinions of national figures from Winston Churchill to Franklin D Roosevelt, and advertising men from David Ogilvy to Rosser Reeves.

Hey Whipple, Squeeze This By Luke Sullivan: “A guide to creating great ads”. This number takes a look back into the history of advertising (the good, the bad and the ugly). It covers getting into a career in advertising as well as a real-look at today’s ad agencies. Available for free download.

Let’s get (re)SOURCY:

Testing… TESTING… Wan, tu, thrie:

•    Test your grammar skills… go on, do it.
•    Are you a grammar Ninja?.... Well, are you?

The smartest TOOLs in the shed:

  • InboundWriterTM – “a Social Writing Application, enables writers, bloggers, journalists and marketers to easily create content for increased reach, engagement and online conversions.” Free sign up, nogal.
  • Dictionary.com – http://dictionary.com – for when in doubt (or, if you’re like me, for entertainment)
  • Thesaurus.com - http://thesaurus.com – when at a loss for a better word or to jazz up a piece of writing.

So there you have it. Don’t get me wrong, there are waaaaay more awesome reading and writing resources on the Interwebs (including this whole list that I couldn’t fit into this post). If you’ve got any more suggestions to add, it would make our Copy team smile.

After all, if you tickle us, will we not laugh?
