The Internet is full of cats

The Internet is full of cats. Fat cats, LOLCats, Ceiling Cats, Monorail Kitteh, Basement Kitteh, Boss Kitteh and a whole range of other cats and 'kittehs.' I made a passing comment that, due to the huge volume of cat videos online, it would be clever to buy the rights and brand the backgrounds. Now, John St have decided to this is the way forward.

Effectively a spoof, John St announce that they will develop an in-house 'Cat Studio' to create cat videos. Their driver is Ninja Cat, a viral that resulted in 27 million views. 27 million views of potentially branded content. The idea may be a spoof, but the point remains that viral content, if branded, could potentially be seen by millions of people for free.

Some stats:

  • 630 000 Views so far (Uploaded 10 November 2011)
  • First Facebook view: 63 000
  • First Twitter view: 13 000
  • First referral from YouTube search: 8 000
