A beast worth Saving.

Rhino poaching has escalated from a hunting industry concern to a criminal epidemic. Already in 2012 – and let’s note, we are only 2 weeks in – 11 rhino have been killed. Last year nearly 450 rhino were killed in South Africa.

Who’s Lending a Helping Hand?

One of the organisations trying to combat Rhino poaching is Afrika Force, specifically their subdivision, Rhino Force.

Afrika Force is headed by passionate conservationist, Chris Thorpe, who’s leading the march against the extinction of these majestic beasts of the African wild.

The Endangered Wildlife Trust raises funds through selling a variety of Afrika Force memorabilia, such as the Rhino Force bracelet, manufactured in Mpumalanga. The bracelets are available at selected Exclusive Books, Look & ListenBaby City, Thrupps, Casalotti’s Pizza Rapido and Local Grill. The profit from each bangle sold goes toward fighting Rhino poaching.

Quirk’s Contribution

Quirk has been involved with Afrika Force since 2010, taking on the development of their website and blog, as well as handling all their social media efforts.

Quirk Agency CEO, Justin Spratt, believes that by helping Rhino Force build their digital assets, it gives them the opportunity to reach a large audience and raise awareness for their cause. He urges the importance for Quirk to continue its pro bono work and give continued support to the community that fights to save Rhinos.

Currently the main forms of online communication for Afrika Force are Facebook and Twitter. The Twitter account @AfrikaForce has 210 followers from only 293 Tweets. This is extremely efficient and shows the weight Afrika Force carries. The Facebook page which includes a mixture of Afrika Force updates, news updates and reports, currently has 667 fans.

Afrika Force is one of the most prevalent conservation organisations in the South African online sphere.
