Quirk Weekend Music Mix

by Ben Brouckaert

2012/02/03

Hello and welcome to Quirk’s recommended music mix this week. Here’s what the QuirkStars are listening to:

Jack White - Love Interruption

Shared by Dustin Ryan

The lead single off his upcoming solo album "Blunderbuss". More laid back than the usual upbeat nature of The White Stripes or The Dead Weather and includes some interesting use of the clarinet.

S.Maharba - For Someone (Abandonment)

Shared by Ben Brouckaert

This beautiful slow burner appears on the awesome compilation "Dropping Gems".
Reverb drenched strings, warm synths and a soothing vocal sample melt together in light, blissful ambience. Great stuff.

Die Antwoord - I Fink U Freeky

Shared by Daniel Neville

Exactly what you'd expect. More Roger Ballen. More "zef" rap. Grimy visuals and a catchy tune are sure to please the crowds. As for us, we miss Waddy.

Grimes – Genesis

Shared by Ben Brouckaert

Canadian synth pop producer/songwriter/singer with an angelic voice but a with a darker twist. Starts with a simple bass synth arpeggio, but the track really kicks into gear when the drums come in, rich and full of energy. Layered and reverbed vocals lighten up the mood and round off a well-crafted pop song

Markus WormStorm - Not I, But A Friend

Shared by Jason Warner

One of South Africa’s electronic old guards, Markus Wormstorm has just dropped his latest release. You can download it legally (and for free) here: http://wormstorm.tumblr.com/. Expect good things from the man with Lark, The Real Estate Agents, The Constructus Corporation and more under his belt.

That’s it folks. Don’t forget to share your favourite tunes!
